A 19th Century Gilt Bronze Study of a Reclining Labrador Dog on a Rouge Marble Base

| /

A finely modelled 19th century gilt bronze sculpture of a reclining labrador dog, beautifully cast with excellent attention to the texture of the coat and the gentle, alert expression typical of the breed.  The labrador is presented resting on a richly coloured rouge marble base with pale pink veins, which complements the warm tones of the gilt bronze.

The modelling and quality suggest French workmanship, likely dating from the late 19th century.  The gilt bronze retains a lovely original patina with attractive depth and warmth.  The marble base is well cut and polished.
