Antique Victorian Folk-Art Painted Tilt-Top Breakfast Table

A highly decorative and unusual Victorian mahogany tilt-top breakfast table with a hand-painted folk-art design (original not later).  The circular top features a striking pattern radiating from a central black and green motif in tones of black and cream. Likely created by a provincial craftsman in the mid-19th Century, it perfectly captures the character and individuality of rural English artistry.

Time and age have given the painted surface a beautiful patina - the wear and fading only enhances its charm.  The top is mounted on a sculptural turned column support comprising four uprights, united by a central collar and raised on 4 carved, outswept legs with original wooden feet. The base is also painted in black, cream and green.

The top easily tilts to a vertical position by the use of the small sprung handle underneath, allowing the table to double as a striking painted accent when not in use.
